"Live from Prairie Lights" is a live, one-hour radio program featuring readings and interviews with an eclectic mix of new and established writers. Since the program's beginning in 1991, radio producer Julie Englander has hosted the show from Prairie Lights Bookstore, an independent bookstore in the heart of downtown Iowa City and one of the epicenters of the literary life of the community.While each reading on “Live from Prairie Lights” is unique, the show follows a basic format: host Julie Englander introduces the author, who then reads from a selection of his or her work. This program is unique in that, while most public readings end when the author finishes reading, on “Live from Prairie Lights,” Englander interviews the author and facilitates a question-and-answer session that lasts until the end of the program.
