About this collection
Attention: We are planning a redesign of the archive! We would greatly appreciate your input. Please write to us at kelly-a-smith@uiowa.edu to tell us how you are using the archive, and what for what purposes. What features do you find useful? What features would you like us to implement in our new design? Welcome to the Iowa Writer's Workshop Audio Archive. This digital collection presents a selection of audio recordings of public poetry and fiction readings sponsored by the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. The Workshop has been recording poetry and fiction readings since the mid-1960s, and in doing so has amassed a collection of approximately 1,000 hours of recorded content on audio cassette tape. The collection features some of the most celebrated figures in American letters. Historically, these recordings have had a small circulation; members of the Workshop community have been able to borrow copies of the master tapes. This digitization initiative marks a collaboration between the Writers' Workshop and the University of Iowa School of Library and Information Science to make the Workhop's singular collection globally available online. The recordings featured in this collection appear courtesy of the authors' permission.
The complete collection comprises 3 subcollections.
